Season 5 of HBO’s Game of Thrones will premier on April 12, 2015, and last week HBO released the first official trailer. It looks absolutely amazing, but it also hints to some distinct changes from the books. For example, I don’t recall reading about Ser Jorah fighting in Meereen’s arena or Jaime going to Dorne, and it looks like Varys may be Tyrion’s new travelling companion – which makes wonder if a particular Targaryen lad may have been axed from the show.
That said, I loved our first look at the Sand Snakes, and it looks like Season 5 will delve deep into A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons. Last season already ventured far into those books, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this season ends with the conclusion of those two novels. (I’m having a hard time imagining how the writers would find a good place to stop in the middle of either book, especially since much of the two books cover the same time period.) But where will that leave us with Season 6?

February 4, 2015 - 4:57 pm ·It's been so long since I read the books, I have to wonder if I'm seeing a divergence or not sometimes. Can't wait to see the show. I just hope the final book is truly final and somewhat explanatory.

I got a totally unexpected day in Seville in 2009 and almost drove a rental car into a narrowing street that seriously worried me. And, it was a tiny car!

February 10, 2015 - 7:12 pm ·I missed the preview, but I take it the Dorne scenes were filmed in Seville? That makes sense. I always pictured Dorne like Spain, and it looks like they've gone with the Moorish variety.
By the way, one of my maxims in life is never, ever drive through anything that looks like it was once a medieval gateway into a formerly walled city in Europe! Learned that lesson the hard way in Sienna.

February 10, 2015 - 7:21 pm ·Yes, the southern crew moved from Croatia to Seville for the Dorne scenes, which look amazing. The also built a fishing village "north of the Wall" in a Northern Ireland rock quarry. They are spending tons of money!
