Independence Day!



Imagine the courage of those who risked all for the sake of independence and freedom. It led to a war and lives were lost, but the Declaration of Independence well states the cause for which they fought 238 years ago:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

    I enjoyed watching the series "Turn" on AMC of which the first season just concluded. It is based on the activities of a Patriot spy network that operated within British occupied areas of Long Island and Connecticut. Some liberties are taken with timelines, but overall it reflects the savage nature of what was in some respects a civil war, with families divided in loyalty.

    I can't help but think that the Battle of Trenton at Christmas, 1776 (the preliminary river crossing is depicted in the famous painting) was an actual miracle that saved the Revolution.
