The 180th Oktoberfest celebration is currently underway, and while Irish monks never celebrated this German holiday, they did brew great beer! So in honor of Oktoberfest (and I’ll admit, I’m a huge fan of great German beer), I’ll be running a three day giveaway for Enoch’s Device on Amazon from September 25 through September 27!…
After a lot of book reviews, I’m aiming for some light-hearted fresh-scraped vellum humor for this week, thanks to the folks at Horrible Histories (and YouTube, of course – you can watch it here too). Incidentally, in the Middle Ages vellum was made from calfskin, and parchment was made from sheepskin. I even included a…
For the next 72 hours, the Kindle version of Enoch’s Device will be on sale at Amazon for 99¢! Here’s what Marty Shaw of Reader Views said about the novel: “If you enjoy tales of magic and adventure that are perfectly blended with reality and history, ‘Enoch’s Device’ by Joseph Finley will be an exciting…
Fresh-scraped Vellum is excited to participate in the virtual book tour for Ben Kane’s new novel Spartacus: Rebellion! A review of the novel will be posted this Thursday, and on Friday I’ll feature an interview with author Ben Kane. Fresh-scraped Vellum also participated in the tour for the first book in the series, Spartacus: The Gladiator…
In my reviews of Bernard Cornwell’s The Winter King and Enemy of God, I noted how the character of Merlin is obsessed with recovering the Thirteen Treasures of Britain, which he believes can restore the power of the old Celtic gods. These treasures, which are sometimes called the Thirteen Hallows, feature prominently throughout Cornwell’s The…

Here’s what Marty Shaw of Reader Views said about the novel: “If you enjoy tales of magic and adventure that are perfectly blended with reality and history, ‘Enoch’s Device’ by Joseph Finley will be an exciting read for you.”…
This month I gave my first author interview for Enoch’s Device. Author Tyler Tichelaar, who specializes in Arthurian fiction, conducted the interview, which was first posted on Reader Views. It is also being featured in a newsletter going out to readers today. I had a fun time with it. Tyler asked some great questions that…
Leading up to my next installment in my series on Medieval Fiction, I thought I’d pose some questions about one of the late Fifth Century’s most legendary figures: Who was Arthur of Britain? And was he a real person or a purely mythical figure? Arthur vs. Mordred – One of my favorite Arthurian images! These are…
For the next week, the Kindle version of Enoch’s Device will be on sale for $2.99 at Amazon.com. That’s less than a Grande Chai Tea Latte or a Tall Mocha Frappuccino at Starbucks! So, if you’ve been waiting to buy a copy, or know someone who likes medieval adventure stories filled with mystery, suspense, and a bit of the…
The Goodreads Giveaway for my novel Enoch’s Device closes in eight days. Click here to enter for a chance to win one of ten copies. Also, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, and because my novel begins in Ireland and features a young Irish monk as the protagonist, here are some of my favorite Irish-focused quotes…
This Sunday is Saint Patrick’s Day, one of my all-time favorite holidays! In honor of the great Irish saint, I’m re-posting an updated article from last year about Stephen R. Lawhead’s Patrick: Son of Ireland. I had little appreciation for the story of Saint Patrick until I began the research for Enoch’s Device. That novel begins in Derry…
